Internet of Things was a key theme at SAP TechEd && d-code in Las Vegas this year. IoT was highlighted in the keynotes delivered by Steve Lucas and Bjorn Goerke, Strategy talks, InnoJam, Hackers' Lounge demos and more. Here are key event highlights:

 

Executive Keynotes

Steve Lucas showed many real life examples of the Internet of things including: smart gardening with Flextronics; smart cranes that prevent collision on construction sites with SK Solutions; and sensors in hospital beds that measure patient vitals with HANA startup EarlySense. Watch Replay

Björn Goerke shared how SAP HANA Cloud Platform will drive innovations in next-generation solutions like the Internet of Things. SAP customer Alliander showed how they use predictive maintenance to avoid catastrophes and to provide gas to millions of customers in a safe environment. Watch Replay

Strategy Talks

The Internet of Things: Making it Real – Michael Lynch shared IoT industry trends and SAP’s strategy for the Internet of Things for Business highlighting key use cases and customer case studies for Predictive Maintenance & Service, Connected Logistics, Connected Cities, Connected Car and more. IT 2020 Vision: The Modern IT Platform of the Future – Irfan Khan shared his predictions for 2020 and discussed the Internet of Things as one of the key megatrends. Watch Replay

 

IoT @ Scale Event with RedMonk and SAP InnoJam  

IoT @ Scale, a developer-focused pre-conference event jointly hosted by SAP and RedMonk was held in Palo Alto. This event highlighted learning sessions as well as hands-on experience to celebrate maker culture.

Hackers' Lounge

Internet of Things was the theme for this years Hackers Lounge which included hands-on experience for developers, IoT demos, and IoT training sessions. Key highlights:

 

Predictive Maintenance: This water pump is constantly monitored with various sensors. If one pump fails, a sensor kicks off an alert to route the water through alternate pump. All pump activity to monitored and analyzed to identify patterns to avoid failure and perform predictive maintenance. 145 attendees checked out this demo onsite.

 

Connected Retail: SAP connected vending machine featuring consumer engagement, real-time replenishment through a responsive supply chain, predictive maintenance and mobile payments. This demo was seen by more than 320 attendees.

 

Augmented Reality: SAP AR solutions using smart glasses showcased simple directions with detailed 3D images for field service and warehouse management. 140 attendees saw this demo.
